In order to get Cisco certification or an IT job managing Cisco networking equipment you first need to get hands on experience with Cisco equipment. This may seem like a simple task. However, if you aren't in the position of a network administrator or engineer who configures Cisco routers on a daily basis then it can actually be quite challenging to get enough hands on experience with Cisco equipment.

There aren't many people who have access to many test routers and switches at their work. If you are pursuing your Cisco certification then you likely can't afford to purchase all the Cisco equipment you need since it would cost you thousands of dollars. Sometimes an employer may send you to a Cisco class, but after its over you have no way of keeping up with what you learned or practice for you exam on actual Cisco equipment. So what options are available?

Why not consider Cisco equipment rentals. This niche market has recently started to become filled with many internet based companies. Many of these online companies will actually cater their services to those who are acquiring their Cisco certification, since many of those going into this field have money set aside for hands on learning due to the demanding need for equipment in order to prepare for exams. The prices however for Cisco equipment rentals is very low since there is a great amount of competition among Cisco rental companies. But with so many companies to choose from how do you know which one is right for you?

Obviously many want to compare the price of Cisco equipment rentals, but you also want to consider what customer service the company offers you, the features and configuration of the Cisco equipment and the added services that the company gives you. You will undoubtedly have a question as some point so you want to choose a company that at least gives you an email address or even better a pager or phone number. This doesn't mean the company will help you with all your studies, but they should at least help you with basic rack connections free of charge.

So if you need help with your Cisco certification consider using Cisco equipment rentals in order to get your hands on experience. This is certainly a more economic option for those who need to invest in the right equipment for hands on experience. It will also give you a lot of valuable experience for when you start working on Cisco products for real.
